The Thrill of Yelling Bingo!

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

If you have ever entered and observed a bingo game being played, you would realize the high level of anticipation as the numbers are called and the excitement that goes on when someone wins. There is nothing like the thrill of yelling ‘Bingo’ when you have circled that last number on your card to make a row or column.

Of course, when you walk into a bingo hall, you will also notice that almost 90% of the people there are retirees and in their forties but with bingo being offered online many young people have come to appreciate the real deal. Playing in a hall with other bingo enthusiasts is definitely a lot more fun.

The funny thing about bingo is that it is played by people from a variety of background and there is no one distinct feature that you can identify to a bingo player. Many people just come to make friends and have a place to hang out on Wednesday evenings just like bowling groups.

Many grown-ups may now remember following their parents or grandparents to these bingo games. It used to get doubled up as day care center for kids in lower income communities. But no matter how old you are, the excitement that follows is always the same. When someone wins, the whole hall celebrates. And of course, there will be after game drinks and parties to attend, courtesy of the winner, of course.

If you have never experienced a live game of bingo, you should definitely give it a try. It is not very difficult game to learn and play as in most bingo halls, there are enough officials and volunteers to help newcomers out and of course, the players themselves are great helpers as well. Sit beside an old man or woman and you will by the end of the game know the entire history of the game and if you’re lucky, you would have gained valuable tips and strategies for winning. There are usually some beverages available which you can purchase but you will also find many senior folks bringing along their flasks of hot drinks and enjoying their tea or coffee as they play. Children are generally not encouraged but as long as your kid is well behaved, nobody really minds. The kids will end up having too many grandmas and grandpas to count.

In a regular group of bingo enthusiasts, newcomers will definitely blend in because it would be like marrying into a new family. Everyone is welcoming and it only takes a little while for you to become acquainted to almost everyone there.

While of course, you can play online bingo that probably has the same prize money or even better deals in the comfort of your own home, there is nothing like being in a hall with hundreds of other people and hear the whole crowd cheer as you yell ‘Bingo!’ Besides, when you become part of a regular bingo group, you become part of a very large network of friends.

Playing Bingo for Charity

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

The game of bingo has been around for decades now and many have come to associate it with a game for the elderly. That maybe, only half the truth. In actual fact, many non-profit organizations have run bingo games to raise funds for their causes such as helping the underprivileged children or even to raise funds for community projects. While generally, it has not been getting as much participation as it used to with the general economic crisis but many still pursue along these lines to have a bingo game for charity. It makes people feel better playing bingo albeit, a form of gambling if they were doing it for a noble cause.

In recent times, many casinos have jumped onboard to provide assistance in the form of providing more money and also to introduce, electronical gadgets for playing bingo so that one person can play a different cards at the same time. This can definitely increase the chances of winning for bingo fans and many are delighted in participating. It has been rather hard going to attract young people to join in as the traditional game of bingo has to compete with computer games and also other gambling centers which have fully made use of the Internet to promote their games. Nevertheless, by increasing the prize money and by including other fun games and goodies, there is still plenty of money to be made in raising funds for charity.

A recent bingo event that was organized in a community center to raise funds for an orphanage nearby managed to make things interesting by getting slot machines sponsored by a local casino. They were brought in to the center to sort of lure the people in and at the same time, attracting lot of attention to the bingo game that was arranged to raise funds, as well. They say that it’s still better to have bingo games for charity as this raises more funds than any other sort of sales. They were able to raise close to $50,000 in that one weekend alone.

I think with more publicity and advertisement given to these charity bingo games, it will be able to attract a lot more attention. Asking local businesses for sponsorship will also give the event a community feeling. Local business owners will only be too pleased to get some advertisement to their products as well as being able to chip in to help their community as well. Perhaps, having online bingo games will attract the young people to join in and participate and give it an edgy feeling.

So all in all, playing bingo for charity is not a lost cause as the game is still thriving amidst troubling times but even so many who have been involved in organizing these games have to become more creative in how they package and market these bingo games. Why don’t you watch out for the next bingo game in your area that is organized to raise funds and join in? You will be surprised at how much fun it can be and even if you don’t win, you know that the money you have spent has gone towards a good cause.

Bingo Etiquettes

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Bingo can be a fun and entertaining way of spending your evenings. Many people, especially, the elderly gather at various community centers where these games are held usually on a weekly basis. It’s a fairly easy game to comprehend and play. There might be specific rules common to certain bingo halls so it’s always a good thing to read these rules in their brochures or posted on their notice boards.

Bingo halls can be a great place to make friends unless you’re sitting next to a hard-core bingo fanatic. The general rules of play apply everywhere and here are some bingo etiquettes that you might want to remember, especially, if you’re new to the game.

Well, generally, you will notice that as the caller starts calling out numbers for you to tick off on your bingo card, people become quiet and at this point, it would be quite rude to carry on loud conversations as this might be a form of distraction to the business at hand. Also, regulars at certain bingo halls have certain seats that they claim bring them luck. You would be right to not stand in their way. Just find any other seat especially, if you’re new to that place. It saves a lot of trouble!

It’s a general behavior requirement to not repeat aloud the numbers that are called out even if you’re just repeating it to yourself. It can cause confusion to the person next to you. There are bingo centers that allow you to bring kids along but you have to make sure that they are at their best behavior. Running around and screaming is not something that would be tolerated. In some places, there are activities for the kids but if there isn’t, you might want to bring along things for them to do as you know kids left idle will definitely start getting into trouble.

If you have lost or have been losing, do not yell out your frustration at the bingo caller. Even if you have problems hearing the caller, it’s still rude to yell. So, you can politely ask him or her to speak louder. Don’t be too quick to yell out Bingo unless you’re absolutely sure. If it happens once too often, you will become like the boy who yelled wolf and people will start ignoring you and get pretty annoyed at your presence.

In many bingo halls, smoking is not allowed and you can usually do it outside or in specially designated areas. You have to respect this rule especially in centers with senior

citizens who are health conscious. While all these basic etiquettes are common sense, you would be surprised how many people forget them as they get carried away with entering an exciting bingo hall or if they themselves start winning. Playing bingo is a very nice way to spend time and by following these bingo etiquettes, you can make sure that you can make many lifelong friends and become a regular at your favorite bingo centers, as well.
